How Breakups Become Opportunities

Breakups are devastating. I’ve been there multiple times. It feels like life as you know it has ended and you’re only left with the aftermath to cleanup. But when one door closes another miraculously opens.

After every breakup I’ve had, I would think I could never love someone, or be loved, again.

Man was I wrong.

As time after a breakup goes on… oxygen would fill my lungs and I was able to breathe again. Not only could I breathe again I would eventually love again.

Every time a relationship ends a new opportunity is presented. Think about that for a second.

Although it doesn’t feel that way in the moment, that breakup brought you to a life crossroad.

If that breakup didn’t happen you would have been doing the same self-sabotaging behaviors and allowing the less-than-things into your life.

Breakups make us look at our shit like nothing else can.

Breakups make us look at what you should’ve changed and what we wanted to change but had no control of.

Looking at my own history of breakups I realized how much I grew after each one. When you leave a relationship you know more about yourself then when you went into that relationship. Weird how that happens… but it happens.

Because of this process you now have better information about who you are and what you’re allowing in your life for before that relationship began.

The only way to get this type of insight is to get your hands dirty.

I wish there was a less heartbreaking way to get this information.

But unfortunately this is the best way.

You won’t actually learn anything unless you go through it yourself.

This is why I see every breakup as an opportunity to redefine your future. With this new information you can identify a partner who’s more in line with your needs.

You can free yourself of blaming others of your unhappiness and allow yourself to have permission go out and find it yourself.

In my Tampa counseling practice, I help guide people to understand themselves more to be able to obtain the healthiest relationships possible. If you’re curious about relationship counseling Tampa let’s chat. Click here to schedule your free phone consult with me today.
