If you experience anxiety on the daily, it might feel impossible imagining yourself being happily content and anxiety-free. But I’m here to tell you it’s possible. Every single person has experienced anxiety at some point in their life.
Anxiety is natural stress response. It was created to decipher between threats when we lived in the wild. Well we don’t live in wild anymore but our anxious stress response is still going off. So the goal now is for you to develop skills to get your anxiety under control to live your happiest life.
Here’s skills on how to be happy and anxiety-free:
Mindfulness. The evidence mounting on the benefits of mindfulness is undeniable. Mindfulness has been studied sufficiently over the last decade as a proven intervention to combat anxiety. Mindfulness is the practice on being aware of the present moment. By actively staying the present moment you allow your mind to cognitively reset by stepping out of the anxious thought loop. There’s some many great mindfulness apps out there, get one!
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Also knows as CBT, is one of the most empirically studied therapeutic interventions for anxiety with the best outcomes. This type of therapeutic approach is focused around your thoughts impacting your feelings which then impact your behaviors. By challenging your negative old thoughts and realigning new ones, your emotions and actions will follow. I use this approach a lot with my clients through anxiety counseling in my Tampa office.
Active Relaxation. This is a technique that individually tenses muscles throughout the body then allows those muscles to release the tension. The point is to center your focus on the activity of tensing and releasing within the body which then contribute to deeper sense of calmness and centeredness within the brain.
I’d love to hear your feedback on if any of all of these skills have been beneficial in combating your anxiety. Finding happiness and fighting off anxiety is a daily practice, not just when it’s convenient for you.
The more you practice these skills, the better you’ll get at them.
Practice makes permanence.
